Visiting Siem Reap, Cambodia
We spent the weekend in Siem Reap, Cambodia visiting famous temples and relaxing at our luxurious hotel. We were taken to our hotel by a strange taxi driver who kept insisting we hire him as a driver for the next day (clearly trying to rip us off). We ended up taking the safe route and booked a private tour guide and driver through our hotel for a decent price. We had a 4:30am wake up call to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat. Unfortunately, the weather was gloomy and there was no sun!! Our guide took us to visit the breath taking temples including Angkor Wat (my favourite temple), Angkor Thom, Bayon and Ta Prohm (the famous tree from the movie Tomb Raider was filmed here). We even saw elephants footsteps away from us!

We were able to appreciate the Hindu and Buddhist traditions practiced in the temples (good thing we paid attention during Grade 12 world religion class!). After 6 hours of visiting temples we were ready to hit the markets! On our way home, Bianca was feeling adventurous and tasted a roasted cricket!
In the evening, we took a tuk tuk down to Pub Street and found a restaurant where we enjoyed some traditional Aspara dancing.

It was great weekend to get away from the busy city but we’ve missed the kids (its only been 2 days) and we are eager to see them tomorrow!
